Soft Tissue Release
and Myofascial Release
Soft tissue release and myofascial release are often recommended when pain is driven by tight, overloaded, or irritated tissue rather than the joints alone.
At BTM Chiropractic, these treatments are used to support patients dealing with chronic muscle tension, restricted movement, postural strain, sports related overload, and recurring soft tissue discomfort.
The focus is not only on relieving tension, but on improving how your body moves and identifying the habits, movement patterns, or training loads that may be contributing to the problem.
UNDERSTANDING YOUR CARE
What is Soft Tissue Release
Soft tissue release is a general term for hands-on treatment that targets muscles, tendons, and other soft tissue structures that have become tight, painful, or restricted.
A variety of different techniques are used such as: Massage, cross friction, active and passive release and fasica tool scraping.
These techniques are used in order to promote blood flow, improve tissue mobility, reduce adhesions and promote overall healing and decrease pain associated with tight or painful muscles.
Treatment may focus on a specific painful area or on the surrounding tissue that is contributing to the problem.
What is Myofascial Release
Myofascial release is a form of soft tissue treatment that focuses on fascia and the surrounding muscle tension that may be contributing to pain, restriction, or a persistent feeling of tightness.
Fascia is a connective tissue that supports and surrounds muscles, joints, and other structures throughout the body. When it becomes irritated, overloaded, or restricted, it can limit movement, increase tension, and contribute to discomfort in both local and surrounding areas.
Myofascial release uses controlled, hands on techniques to reduce these restrictions, improve tissue mobility, and restore more efficient movement. It is often used as part of a broader treatment plan to address both the source of the tension and the way the body is moving overall.

Soft Tissue Release Techniques Used at BTM Chiropractic
Treatment may involve sustained pressure, guided movement, assisted release work, cross friction massage, instrument assisted soft tissue techniques, and other manual approaches selected based on the area being treated and your specific symptoms.
Instrument assisted soft tissue therapy uses specialised tools to target fascia and muscle restriction, helping to improve tissue mobility and reduce tension where needed.
Your chiropractor may combine soft tissue release with adjustment, dry needling, dry cupping, rehabilitation advice, or movement changes when this is clinically appropriate.
Soft tissue therapy can play an important role in reducing tension and improving how your body moves and feels.
- Relief from chronic muscle tension and tightness
- Improved flexibility and ease of movement
- Support for recovery after strain or overuse
- Reduced discomfort during work, training, and daily activity
- Greater awareness of movement patterns that may contribute to recurring tension
- Improved blood flow and circulation

Soft Tissue Release FAQ
Some aspects may feel similar, but soft tissue release is more targeted and guided by a clinical assessment. The focus is on addressing specific areas of restriction and the underlying cause of tension.
Treatment can feel tender when tight or irritated tissue is being addressed, but the pressure is always adjusted to a level that is manageable and appropriate for you.
This depends on the cause of the problem, its severity, and how long it has been present. Your chiropractor will guide you on what to expect based on your assessment and response to treatment.
